The Kaua`i Domestic Violence Prevention Task Force was launched in the summer of 2009 with start-up funding from the state Department of Health. The Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence now oversees DV task forces on all of the main Hawaiian Islands, and the YWCA of Kaua`i administers the grant for Kaua`i.

We are project-based and enjoy active participation on several sub-committees created around members’ own areas of interest: Parenting/Partnering, Media/PR, Youth, Faith-based, Professional Education, Male Involvement, Fundraising, Legislative and more.
Our mission is: "Bringing safety and harmony to Kauai’s families through community outreach and collaboration,. offering empowering solutions and resources for prevention, education, intervention and treatment of domestic violence."

The task force is open to all community members who want to help stop family violence. For more information, review the Invitation Letter or email dvtaskforce@ywcakauai.org .

The Domestic Violence Prevention Task Force

The ‘Who Can? You Can’ public awareness campaign was launched in May 2011 to engage the community in helping to stop domestic violence ("DV"). Like the nationwide anti-bullying movement, it focuses neither on the victim nor the offender, but empowers the ‘bystander’ to help shift attitudes and beliefs that perpetuate abuse. The real "first responders" are not law enforcement, healthcare or social service providers. Usually it’s the friends, relatives, co-workers, and faith communities of those caught up in the dynamics of abuse. Preventing domestic violence is EVERYBODY’s business. DV is a challenging social issue, public health issue and human rights issue. How can YOU make a difference?

Though our most recent survey period ended July 31, 2011, we offer this survey as a tool to open up dialogue with others and to generate positive action steps to help create more safety and harmony in your home, neighborhood, workplace and community. A summary of the "official" survey results is also available below.
